The KPIs displayed on the Maintenance Connection Home Page and Dashboard can provide a powerful visual display of key performance indicators defined as important by your organization. They also provide a unique “point in time” reference, evaluating performance on measures such as average work order completion time, response time, cost variances, mean time between failures, and backlog. In addition to defining the KPIs to track, you can determine the appropriate thresholds and graph format, link the KPI to a defined report, and even track the trend for the performance indicator over time. This is the first in a three part series providing an overview on the capabilities that are available.
The following example shows a KPI created to track the completion time for high priority work orders. The customer has specified that the critical (or warning) level be set to 2 and the alert level be set at 3. The date period covered has been included in the KPI name to ensure that the period covered is evident:

Determine the KPIs to Display on Home Page
You can designate which KPIs are most important for your organization and ensure they are displayed on the Home Page (Work Order, Inventory and Project Tabs).
To modify the KPIs shown on the Home Page, use the option on the toolbar to open the Dashboard.

Select the HOME-WO group from the KPI Dashboard filter on the upper left and click the Edit Link.

The Edit KPI Dashboard Dialog will come forward, allowing you to designate the KPIs to display. Maintenance Connection will display the first two KPIs shown on the right side of this dialog.

Adjust KPI Range (thresholds and alert levels)
To edit the KPI range and alert levels for a KPI:
-
• Select the KPI to edit from the list in the upper left, using the available control to filter the list by KPI Group.

-
• Click the Edit Link directly below the displayed KPI:

The above changes would result in the following:
Note: The formula that defines the KPI calculation is entered using the KPI Query Buttons at the bottom of the Edit KPI Dialog. Customers who are comfortable defining SQL can “clone” existing KPIs and modify them to create new performance measures. Those who would like assistance in defining the SQL for a KPI should feel free to contact Maintenance Connection Support.

In the next blog on this topic, we will review how to link a KPI to a defined report. For more information on defining and viewing KPIs, refer to the Dashboard Chapter of the Reporter Guide:
